The Essentials You Need To Know When Purchasing and Caring For Your Diamond.
Diamond Cut and Shapes

Asscher Cut Diamond

The Asscher Cut diamond was created in 1902 by the Asscher Brothers of Holland. Asschers are cut in the same manner as an Emerald Cut, except in a square shape. The Asscher has 74 facets, a deep profile, and angular corners, making it appear almost octagonal in shape. If the cut is well executed it can have exceptional brilliance and, like the emerald, an icy almost glacier like appearance.

The Asscher Cut was popular through the 1930's and has come back into style with the popularity of antique and vintage style engagement rings.

Selecting a Well Cut Asscher Cut

Like Emerald Cut diamonds Asscher Cuts have large open facets, which can make internal inclusions or imperfections much easier to see with the unaided eye. For this reason, we suggest purchasing a diamond of at least SI1 in clarity, preferably VS2 or higher.

We suggest looking for a stone that is as square as possible and falls within the suggested proportions and characteristics provided below as a guide.
